This is Deception Island, an active volcanic caldera, with an opening through which ships can pass. This is the place where some of us went swimming. Looks much like your local beach, huh? Complete with the noxious gas, freezing wind, and a lone penguin.
Notice how clear the water is, and how much of the iceberg is below the surface.
