We had quite a walk through the city. It was a little warm, a little muggy, and the sun quite bright. It reminded me of New York City a little, but a lot cleaner. That’s one thing that impressed us so far about Buenos Aires, it is very clean. It is rather ugly, and several buildings look pretty decrepit, but no filth or trash around. Though, it seems one in three people smoke. 
We headed to Plaza de Mayo, along Avenida de Mayo. On one side is the Presidential Palace, Casa Rosada (Rose House) (See Pic 1&2). It reminded me that the White House was once pink, before the Canadians set fire to it in the War of 1812, and the Madisons slapped a coat of white paint on it.
On the balcony (under the flag) Eva Peron, a.k.a. Evita (and ceertainly many other folks) addressed the mass of people crowded in the plaza. On the other end of the avenue, is the Congressional Building. (See Pic 3). There were some interesting architectural buildings along the avenue, but nothing noteworthy.We got back to the hotel, and they had left a bottle of red wine (Argentinean, of course) for Theresa, with their compliments! We did make it to McDonald’s for “lunch” about 6PM. (I have to hit one in every country!). Getting back to the hotel about 7:30, it is still as bright as mid to late afternoon. No wonder people don´t tend to go to dinner until after 9PM.

Ate at McDonalds??? OMG, will such feats of cultural daring do never end? Was the line to long at Burger King? or too many people smoking at the Olive Garden?

ReplyDeleteSee today's addendum!! Yeah, McD's is not the suavest choice, but there was a BK which we past up. Not sure on the line. We didn't see Olive Garden, but walked by the TGI Friday's and saw a commercial for it. For dinner last night we ate at a regional burger joint. It seemed like a chain, and they had sandwiches that I couldn't determine the meat. Turned out to be a thin steak (like 0.063" thick). I was "whelmed".
