Sinsheim Technik Museum. Not clear what the bull is doing?

Well, today we did something REALLY different…a MUSEUM!! With AIRPLANES!! (Warning: There will be a LOT of plane pictures in this blog.) The museum in Speyer has a sister museum in Sinsheim, so we took the discount by buying them together. They also had an IMAX, this time on the Hubble Telescope, and put on by NASA. It is kind of funny seeing NASA stuff in other countries. It was a spectacular video, apparently narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. It sounded NOTHING like him, but his German was impeccable. It was sort amusing seeing US Astronauts seemingly speaking in German.

Anyway, the primary feature (for me) were the outside planes. They put them all on poles, in creative levels, so they look active somehow. But they have stairs up and into them, at which point you realize…that angle is sort of unwalkable! Not surprisingly, I took off like a kid in a candy store, and Theresa followed dutifully behind with much less zeal.

After some basic airplanes, we got to the main event…A Concorde, and a “Concordski” (Tupelov Tu-144). There was a LOT of espionage during the development of the two planes, and although the Soviets deny they ripped off any designs, the strikingly similar exteriors led to the name “Concordski”!

Inside, it was very similar to the other museum, but with some certain differences. There were a LOT more cars, still some trains and organs and motorcycles. But this one had a huge military section including planes, tanks, artillery, and assorted tractors (military and civilian). They also had a lot of military uniforms and memorabilia. And for some reason, there was a large (20+) display of Stihl chainsaws. Theresa said it looked like an episode of Hoarders opened a museum. But, how many hoarders have ropes and display boards? J

We had a quick lunch in the cafeteria during our visit. Almost every place had Spaghetti Bolognese, and it kept tempting us. Finally, we BOTH wanted it. Although, they also had sliced turkey, and given the day (Thanksgiving), we were torn. But the spaghetti was so good. Oh well. J
