Day E—Munchen on our own—Practicing Deutch?

The hallway to breakfast.  FAAAAANCY!!
Ah, a fine day to sleep in, loll about, and just do little.  So, of course we wake up about 6AM.  We putzed around heading down to breakfast about 8.  We found a suitable table, and awaited our server to get a coffee and cappuccino.  And water.  Our server came by and asked something in German and we responded “Ein Koffee und ein Kapucino” and two waters.  She said something in German about “mit gas oder still” and we said “mit gas!”  She asked “klein oder grosse?” and we answered grosse, since we wanted a large bottle.  Then she asked about the coffee again.  The whole exchange was almost entirely in German.  As she walked away, Theresa noticed a woman laughing, and asked why.  Apparently the woman heard the server asking things in English to other people but was only talking in German to us, which was clumsy for all of us.  But, we didn’t mind as we are, in fact, in Germany!  Finally the coffee and cappuccino came and she put them in the wrong places.  Oh well.  Our “Fruhstuck” (breakfast) was still good!

That's what we want!!
We met our tour guide in the lobby about 8:55 as we had a 9:05 appointment for our COVID test.  She was taking us personally, since we were the only ones leaving tomorrow (and the test must be the day before departure).  Apparently “appointment” means something different here, as we found a long line, and no way to be anywhere but in the back of it.  Ten minutes later the man said something about appointments, and all three of us raised our hands, but he only took two people from the line and then went back to the line.  After thirty minutes, with visions of the Seinfeld scene at the rental car counter going through our heads, it was nearly our turn. But not before the couple next to use most of the wait got their “positive” results back!  :-O  Ours were negative, so off we went.

The building with the tower with the Glockenspiel.
Since we missed the Glockenspiel playing yesterday, we headed back in time to catch the 11:00 playing.  It began sprinkling a bit, and we had our rain coats, but by the time we got to the square, the sun was back out and it was getting hot.  Nevertheless, we saw it play and even recorded a bit (hopefully a future post).  We saw a Church for St. Michael the Archangel and stopped in.  Then we saw another little church for Mary, and stopped in.  Finally, we located our pickup point for the “Lufthansa Bus” which was our ride to the airport.  (Now that we found it, we can head straight there with our bags instead of fumbling around.)

The "Glocken"

The "Spiel"

The Bavarian, German, and Munich flags.

A pretty picture Theresa liked!

A striking representation of a single line in the Passion.

Hmmm...what is this international phenomenon??
Back in the room, we gathered everything up, finalized packing, and then finished some leftovers as an early lunch.  The walk to the bus was not too bad, and we got to the pick up point as he was checking in the last couple, and he chucked our bags on, checked us in, and we barely made it to our seats before the bus was in motion!!  Woohoo!!

An "Information Point" for Ukrainian refugees.

Our seats on the bus (for all of 40 minutes).

A "personal" welcome!!  So, I guess I can't let
Theresa have any of the water or it's 6 Euros?

We made it to our hotel, and were happy to hear that we were upgraded to a Junior Suite!!!  It’s nice to be Hilton Diamond, when the hotel is full of people who don’t have status.  Gotta put me somewhere?  They included a few nice touches!!

Check out our sweet suite!!  Big TV!!

And another TV!!!

The lounge was a little sparse this afternoon.
It has been about two and a half years since we have been in an international Hilton Executive lounge, but finally we’re back!!  Dinner and beer will be free!  After a few snacks and some Diet Coke, we decided to go check out where we needed to go tomorrow, and go see something Bill saw as we pulled into the airport.  It was a visitor center that included a children’s play area.  We took a train one stop and then walked the rest of the way (about 10-15 minutes).  OK, it was more play area than not, but Theresa wouldn’t let Bill play on some of the props.

That Tower was inviting!!
(But not really sized for me.  Dang it!)
There was an overlook area that cost one Euro to see, so we got 50% off by Bill going alone.  It was nice with some enjoyable views.  Then we hiked back.  Theresa thought there might be an alternate path, which we tried.  It was…well it was a road that went by a freeway, through a culvert, up a big hill, and ended up at the Terminal 1 checking area.  Perfect!!  Lounge service begins in 30 minutes, so a deck of cards and an appetite is all we’ll need!

A "zip line"!!  But with no weight rating and Theresa said "NO!"

A "Junkers 52".  What a piece of "Junk"!!!  (It's funny.  Trust me!)

Munich's new terminal in construction.

Dude!!   What the...???

This part of the "play area" was closed.  :-/
