Day 1 - At Sea

Theresa’s Version:  We ate, we drank.  We played cribbage.  We ate, we drank.  We took a nap and played trivia.  We ate we drank.  We went to bed.

Bill’s Version:

On our way...but 12 miles from Cuba!
Today was an “At Sea” day, so no stops, and lots of time at our leisure.  Although we woke up absurdly early, we did manage to get back to sleep and then slept in until late.  In fact, we had to hurry a bit to get to breakfast before the dining room closed.  We went to a lecture on the history of the Caribbean, which started with the formation of the islands (going back to Pangea) and then covered the history of the peoples, and finally the arrival of Europeans.  It was educational, but moved along so as not to be dry or boring.

We then went to the coffee bar and played some cribbage while enjoying a couple of spiked drinks (Irish Coffee and some sort of Hot Chocolate).  We had lunch in the dining room, and appreciated the diversity of foods.  Theresa had a North American beer (Blue Moon), and a South American appetizer (empanada), and European entrée (Chicken Cordon Bleu).  Bill had a European beer (Leffe, from Belgium), European appetizer (pasta), and European entrée (Bouillabaisse).  And we each had a New Zealand dessert (Pavlova).  So, I guess Theresa is more multi-continental than Bill?  All of the food was really good!

After lunch We took a nap and then went to trivia and assembled a team.  A woman came up and flat out asked “Are you clever?”  Well, yeah, but I’m not sure that’s going to be enough!  We held on to our humility and came in fourth.

There was a show, but more importantly, there were drinks!
There was a little bit of a show before dinner, and…well, it was a show.  We went to the special steak restaurant (Prime 7) where we had a reservation for 6:30 at a “sharing table”.  We had a very nice dinner and talked with the other two couples until 9:50.  It was a very nice time!!  But, we’re tired.  Too much leisure?
