A Tale of Two Nights – and the Day Afterwards

Hello, all! You get blessed by Theresa today in the blog…this will be a light day, and don’t want to tarnish Bill’s reputation by having him cover it…also want to brag on him a bit!

Read the shirt :-)
Last night we had two very different experiences. I have been having trouble fully adjusting to the time zone…getting tired early, but not sleeping past 4:30pm. Last night was no different and, though I tried to watch some TV, I was in the nice warm bed and fell asleep about 8:45pm. Although there were a few interruptions, I actually slept until 7am in the morning, so getting the “catch up” sleep that I deeply needed. Bill, on the other hand, had a very different night. As I was falling asleep, he was on the phone with work – and I heard him planning a 9pm conference call and then there was a 2:30am phone call, and 4:15am Teams messaging…plus many more things that I am sure I entirely slept through. Let’s just say that there was a situation at work that needed his expertise. (Bill's note:  I did sleep in between most of these work bits.)
Mango Sticky Rice and Thai Coffee
The Toasted Coconut
So, given the night, a good portion of the morning was spent with Bill sleeping, and me reading my book on the couch (trying not to wake him up). After he woke up, we did our "Bible in a Year" (a great podcast, which we HIGHLY recommend), and went to the breakfast buffet, which luckily was open until 11am…and had the most amazing food – including Thai, Indian, and Western specialties. The winner (and only thing that we went back for second on) was some Thai Mango Sticky rice and Toasted Coconut Sticky Rice, which Bill said tasted like Asian Macaroons.

Snoop Dog Potato Chips?
After a long, relaxing breakfast (shutting down the buffet restaurant), we managed to head out of the hotel – took a walk through a local grocery store, went to a Hindu shrine, and then to one of the MANY malls near the hotel. If you know us, you know we HATE shopping and Malls…but, we were on a Bill sized quest – for the Thai McDonalds. It was no Spaghetti and Fried Chicken, but Bill got a "Samuri" Pork sandwich, and we shared fries and Pineapple Pies.

Maybe walking would be faster?

The number of people is STAGGERING!

Then, we hopped the BTS (Bangkok Train Service) and took it to our stop for the Hotel. The hotel runs a shuttle to the BTS stop, which we saw leaving and turning the corner as we started down the stairs from the BTS platform. Since it wasn’t raining and was only a 12 minute walk, we decided to walk back to the hotel instead of waiting for the every 15 minute bus.

Coming home, first order of business was cooling down and getting dry – this was accompanied by watching some Thai Foot Volleyball, called Sepak Takraw. It’s like Soccer rules on a Badminton side Volleyball court. Very interesting!

Finally cooled down, we went up to happy hour for some nachos and beer – although the Massaman beef provided for the nachos is a little strange! I’m sitting here drinking a Thai Tea doing the blog, while Bill is working.  (Bill note:  Didn't finish, but got a lot done.  Hopefully a few hours tomorrow and I'll be good.  The "Work Hard, Travel Right" t-shirt (from a previous airline) was especially fitting for this trip!)
