The Big Event!! (Part 1)

Traveling in other parts of the world means seeing less familiar airlines.  Which reminds me..
We need to SCOOT!!!

Today we start the grand part of the voyage!!  But, it’s a multiday event.  We got up and headed down to breakfast.  Upon check-in last night, Theresa was given a welcome letter saying they were pleased to offer her free breakfast…for one person.  And acknowledged her as “Brand Name A”.  Decades ago, she was on a long project with said company, and she must have (appropriately at the time) set up that brand hotel with their code, since when traveling for them, they want their contractors to get their company discount.  Anyway, her profile still shows that, and maybe that’s why she was to get a free breakfast.  So, we headed down and worked a little back and forth until it was TWO breakfasts, because the scene of me sitting there drooling with famine while Theresa ate a buffet was probably bad for business. Theresa note -- a little less dramatic than that!

The "tallest" indoor slide in an
airport!  (uh, OK.)
Back in the room, it was more of last night with a bit of work for both of us, and we used up the whole time until we had to check out.  Leaving our bags, we trolled the airport seeing the sights and even finding a movie theatre about 10 minutes after a suitable movie choice started.  Oh well.

Another water fall feature.  This one had musice every 30 minutes

From the Terminal to Terminal train.

Ahhh...the moment the sheet of water decomposes due to
surface tension!!  (OK, the Engineer in me is coming out!)

They've gone to lengths to make the airport feel botanical.
(including the humidity of a jungle!)

We considered a movie at the cinema in the airport...

Some lounge food...before we make it to the (other) lounge!

For some reason they had a sunflower garden?

OK, let's get this party started!!

Eventually, it was time to check in for our flight on Etihad to Abu Dhabi.  This leg is First Class, which should be a happy little primer for tomorrow.  Alas, this flight departs at 9PM, flies seven hours, arriving just after midnight (or 4AM by our body clock)!

Even our boarding passes get special treatment!

Choices, choices!  Let's start ...here!

In the lounge, they had a special room for First Class, so we chose some nice seats in the back, and an attendant who tried very hard to please, but every ask seemed like it confused her.  Regardless, I found a bottle of Talisker (a VERY nice Scotch) and poured myself a drink.  Then perusing the menu, noticed they had Lagavulin 16!!  Oh boy!  But it wasn’t on the shelf, so I had to ask for it.  Worth it!!  I finished my Lagavulin and then went back to finishing my Talisker.

Blog writing is serious business!

A few other people arrived, and at the time of this writing, there are 6 people in a room with 24 seats.  We are spread out nicely!

Ready to go!!

Out of the lounge, and off to the gate!!  It was one of those gates where you go through security going into the gate area, so no drinks for us!  But, we whisked through quickly (on the not-coach side), and headed right on the plane to "find our seats"!

We'll do the flight in tomorrow's post!
