Georgi Kariofilli (?), an Artillery General. Note the MUCH smaller marker for his wife, and her posture (almost bowing with doting reverence to his "greatness").A father and son grave, one or both were sports heros. And the younger died about a week previous to our visit, and the flowers were still "fresh".

Not quite sure what this says about him, but it is artistic (and he had a dog).Hmmm....Can't even give up cigs after death?? Let it go, man!!
(Artist - CCCP)
Lots of markers had the picture etched very realistically, like this one.
An Army General (the two words below the star).(Vladimir Govorov, Leonidovich--Son of Leonid)
A cosmonaut (Tetov German Stepanovich)(Son of Stepan)
Nakita Kruschev 1894-1971. (Leader of the Soviet Union from 1954-1961)The black and white marble signifies the controversial nature of his leadership.
Here are a few pix from the Cosmonaut Museum:
Sputnik!! (No, not the REAL one!)
Mir! (If you don't remember Mir, you probably don't remember the USSR either!)
Rocket engine (apparently)
This IS rocket science!
Dogsin
Space!!
A tool kit for space? (One of the other drawers had a Makita drill (cordless, obviously)!!)
An Ilyushin IL-76 used for weightless training (similar to NASA's 707 "Vomit Comet")
We're still in the Russian space museum, right?

The Soviet Space Shuttle--Buran Hmm...Strikingly familiar??The Buran flew one unmanned mission in 1988 and had a second planned for 1993, but the program was cancelled by then. It was destroyed by a hangar collapse, which also killed 8 people.
Great pics and stories! It is always an experience traveling!!
