Today we toured the Southeast side of Nova Scotia. We started at Kejimkujik National Park. Actually, there are two of them, one in the center with lakes and bogs remaining from the glaciers, and the “Seaside Adjunct” which is down by the coast. We went there today. When we arrived, it was 4 degrees Celsius (about 39 F), windy, with light drizzle. What a beautiful day for a stroll!!
We thought the bathroom was a good idea
before we set out, but it was locked.
Interestingly, there was a tiny outhouse just behind the locked
bathrooms. Classy!
But, as we got started, the rain let up, and
the wind came and went throughout. We got down to
the coast after about a 1 ½ mile hike.
Fred and I explored the rocks until Mom, Dad, and Theresa left us!
While there, Theresa noticed a seal on the
rocks way out there (not too far for a good zoom lens!).
After a rather late lunch, we headed to Shelburne, where the
movie Scarlet Letter was filmed, and has a fairly intact collection of
buildings from the 1600s and 1700s. It
was pretty neat seeing the lineup of buildings at the waterfront, much as they
might have looked in three centuries ago.
Some of the houses up here are quite colorful...or so I am told.
And obviously they are QUITE proud of their Loyalist heritage!
After Shelburne, we went to Cape Sable Island, the southernmost point of Nova Scotia. We got about 60 seconds of hail just after we started. Good thing it is a rental! Well, we went to the end of the road, and found someone’s house. I thought about walking to the sea in his backyard, but we decided against that idea.
All in all, it was cold, damp, grey, and windy. Quite the April day, huh? Well, tomorrow is 30% rain or “winter mix”
predicted. Oh boy!!
