Day 5—Sundance, Utah

The ski resort at Sundance was supposed to have activities open so, as soon as we confirmed they were up and running, we headed south see the views.  It’s missing snow, of course, but there was mountain biking, zip lines, hiking, and the chair lift to the top of the mountain.

As it carries the name of a rather well known Film Festival, they had a lot of pictures of different movies made or set in the area.  It was kind of neat viewing them before we got started.

We took the chair lifts to the top for starters.  Was about 42F at the base, and about 28F at the top, so we bundled up a little.  Even so, sitting idle on a “park bench” while suspended by a cable 50+ feet in the air turns out to be chilly.

At the peak, we looked around, and checked out the little café there, which offered a local beer.  The beer was good, and the warmth was awesome!

About a third of the way back down, we hopped off (at a planned stop, not like “oh hey let’s jump here!) and headed for a little hike around one of the smaller high points.  The walk was classified as “easy”, but it wasn’t exactly a city side walk!  It was a flat path ranging mostly between 12 and 24 inches wide on the mountain slope.  There were certainly some nice views, but honestly, after riding the chair lift, the views weren’t better.  But it was a bit of exercise and a chance to get the one’s heart rate up a bit.

Why Hello Deer!!!

Seems like a short day, but with the roughly 50 minute drive each way, and a late start, it was a suitable vacation day.
