Day 10B--The Rest of the Birthday

After a little nap, we got some breakfast and went to a lecture on penguins.  Then we had a few clean up items from when we were in quarantine.  All of our outer layers had to be inspected for any biological evidence.  We did a little walking on deck, and before we knew it…time for lunch.  In the afternoon, we took a nap and walked a little more looking for wildlife.  We saw some birds, some penguins (ok, yeah, more birds), and Theresa is pretty sure she saw a whale spout.  Before we knew it…time for Trivia!  We then went back to the room to watch a lecture on the differences in the too poles.  Just as we arrived, the butler brought a birthday cake for Theresa and two drinks (we didn’t catch what they were).

We headed straight south, and passed by the South Orkney Islands, which gave some dramatic views and a few icebergs to enjoy.

Rainbow!

Is this a mouse?

Churning ocean!

Happy Birthday to you...!

Looks fun, huh?
All the while, the weather got better and worse.  The clouds cleared up a little, but the winds increased up to 50 knots at one point.  And the swells were a little more than 20 feet.  Mostly it was OK, just rocking a little.  We went to the front and watched the bow heave and then drop, dramatically crashing into the sea.  At dinner, it was getting pretty rough.  It was actually awesome to watch.  But by the end, it was a little much.  We headed back to the room and it’s getting “not fun”.  The rocking isn’t relaxing anymore, and it crashes and bangs a lot, so, we’re not sure how well we’ll sleep.  We will see!

That's a lot of water!
