Georgetown, Grand Cayman Island

Here we are!
Since we had a later arrival, and our tour was a later in the morning, we had a nice relaxing breakfast in the buffet, with a nice view from Deck 14.  The port isn’t very deep, so large ships have to anchor in the bay, and take a shuttle boat (a tender).  This is usually kind of a pain.  You queue up, wait to board the tender.  Once it’s full, it may be 10-20 minutes to the dock.  We got a little lucky as the moment we showed up we got to board in a few minutes.

On the dock, we were directed to a line, and then marched about a quarter mile to another dock, where we boarded a smaller boat to go snorkeling.  The first site was the site of a sunken ship (USS Kittywaki?), a retired submarine rescue vessel.  It was carefully sunk in 60 feet of water, so the top was about 15 feet down.  But a hurricane in 2017 knocked it over, so it sits on its side and is about 30 feet to touch it.  We did see a couple of turtles.  (All of the pictures we took were on the GoPro, which need a little processing first.  So, pictures to follow later.)

It looks kind of like an oversized shopping cart!

Turtle!!

Quite the back up of ships out here!

Disembarking at sea.

If you look closely, you can kind of see the reflection...:-)

After about 40 minutes, we moved to the next site, which was only about 5-20 feet deep, with lots of coral.  Theresa liked it better.  There were a lot more fish, and they seemed oblivious to us.  In fact while we were getting out they seemed to be circling us and got very close…which was strange because they seemed to be the same fish we saw on the shore being sold and cooked.

At lunch, we both agreed to get salad!

While waiting for the tender back, one of the staff noticed Theresa’s card as “the Retreat” (suite), and pulled us out of line and ushered us up to the front.  It was kind of cool and a little awkward.  But we complied!  It did get us on the tender sooner, but the people near us in the line also made the boat, so it didn’t change much.  But it still was kind of fun!  We headed straight up to the buffet for lunch before they closed.  After a nice shower, we napped a little and hung out in the room until it was time to get ready for dinner.

This was “chic” night, so we were supposed to dress up a little.  And they had lobster and baked Alaska.  We enjoyed a nice dinner and then walked around the ship a bit before calling it a night!
