Domkirkja Krist Konungs i Landakoti (Cathedral of Christ the King Iceland) |
We got up at the crack of dawn (like 7AM) and headed down to
breakfast. The day’s schedule was structured
around a marathon of meetings in the afternoon, so that meant eat breakfast
early!
We took our lunch break to visit the Cathedral, then stop by
this famous hot dog place that is THE place to go! But a road was closed, so we rerouted around
a pretty little lake(?), which made it a slow journey. But not to worry, we had time. We got to the hot dog stand, and saw 50-60
people had the same plan. Uhhhh, no.

One of the original three bells in 1927, but it had a flaw, and was abandoned, Decades later it was unearthed, and dedicated as a bell for life. Passerby's are welcome to say a prayer for life and ring the bell (with a small harmless hammer). |

| It's so big and ... plain! |
 |
They incorporated glass for an effect. If you know, you know. |
 |
| Our first detour was aesthetically pleasing. |
 |
| 2500!!!! 😱 |
So, on to step 3, return the car. Same route, same closed road, new detour. We stopped for gas ($8.60/gallon), and returned
the car. While we're on the car, let's talk about that. This was the smallest cheapest car they could find, I think. It is so small, they didn't even capitalize the first letter. The doors are each 40% of the length. The transmission has R-N-D. No Park. When it shifted (we were "upgraded" to an automatic), it lurched and groaned and whined like a teenager learning how to shift. I'll miss you little Hyundai i10 (NOT!)
The walk back was about 1.5 miles (2.4 km),and took us
through a “botanical garden”. You might
imagine Bill’s exuberance at walking through a floral paradise…being colorblind
and all. But fortunately it was more
bushes, evergreens, and trees. Theresa
insisted photographs were needed. We
rounded a corner and passed the “zoo”. I can’t
quite say we saw the full extent of the zoo, but the three displays we saw had
horses in one area, cows in the next, and ducks in a third.
We’re not sure that qualifies as a Zoo.

| Wow, Just....wow. |
 |
| The botanical garden. |
 |
| We shared my salad because...salad! |
We stopped for lunch at a place that had the word “lasagna”
on the window. There were other things,
but it was a baseline that suggested we might go in to see. The lasagna was really good, with lots of
meat!! One might say it was the best lasagna
in all of Iceland (that we’ve tried so far).
Back in the room we began our marathon of meetings. Bill had a five meetings from 2:00-4:50. Theresa had four meetings from 3:00-5:30. Since Bill had started on the middle table,
Theresa took hers into her private office…the bathroom. You might say she was like a Queen on her
throne! (But Bill was VERY grateful she sacrificed!) At 5, Bill headed down to the happy hour,
quite ready for a beer and to not talk.
Theresa joined a bit later and we had some food, drinks,
and chaos (a LOT of people in this lounge!). The evening ended with Bill back on another call for work...
Have fun on the rest of your excursion!
