Grenada!! A new country!!

Welcome to Grenada!!

The end of the island chain!
What do you know about Grenada?  Well, for Bill, I remember when the US invaded in the 80s, and I know it is the LAST island in the chain that runs from Cuba to South America.  So, we are at the furthest south point of the Antilles (the Windward Antilles, Lesser Antilles, or whatever!).

The coastline.

A village, a hill, a waterfront...how Caribbean!!

The church.
This morning, being Sunday, our primary goal was to get to church.  Theresa had contacted the Diocese, as we hoped we might go to Mass at the Cathedral.  But that was at 8AM, and we were supposed to arrive at 8AM, so we probably weren’t going to make that happen.  Anyway, they recommended she look at “Blessed Sacrament” which is a little church right on the beach at Grand Anse.  There was a water taxi that picked up right next to our pier and dropped off a few hundred feet from the church.

We trudged up the sandy beach, wondering if the tennis shoes was a good idea or maybe we should have worn sandals? TG Note: I WAS in sandals - we were taking a water taxi to a beach after all :-)  We walked into the church and immediately knew our choice for shorts had us underdressed, as many people were dressed in their…well, their Sunday best!!  It was hot in church, but there were fans everywhere, so it was only slightly sticky.  How those ladies managed in their fancy dresses, we have no idea!  There were 4 baptisms, and they sang every song they knew and every verse, too!  So, it was a mere two-hour celebration.

Grand Anse Beach

The Island Princess...and our boat!

Iceberg straight ahead!!  No, wait, that's just a giant island!

A typical waterfront.

We walked back through a tunnel shared with vehicles.
After church, we headed back to the beach and the little spice market right next to the beach, to see what they had.  They had spices, some of which were from Grenada (most likely) and some certainly were not.  So…we headed back to the boat/taxi.  It wasn’t that we didn’t want to experience more, but frankly, most of these islands start looking the same.  Sure, they are beautiful with lush vegetation, crystal clear water, and striking hills and colorful houses.  But if we showed you a picture of each, you’d probably wonder which was which.  So, back to the boat.

We found a flag (Bill is trying to collect flags now), and managed to make the lunch buffet by 1PM.  We did a little bit in the room (worked on the blog, closed some eyes, watched some “Love Boat”).  We really never realized what a TERRIBLE show the Love Boat was.  Wow, the message is not good!  Anyway, we headed to trivia at 4 and managed a paltry 12 for our little trio (we’ve been working with a single gentleman of an unknown age, but senior to us).

We found drawings for the ship!!!
OK, maybe only a minority of people find this cool.  Let us know?

Our view from our balcony.

Chilled borscht?
We made it to dinner about 6, and were seated in a familiar table.  The server was very nice, but not very speedy.  We also noticed one of the menu items was a “chilled Ukrainian Borscht”.  Well, Borscht is quite good sometimes (says Bill, NOT Theresa), but we’ve never heard of it being “chilled”.  As it happened, our server was from Ukraine, so we asked him if the “chilled thing” was a “thing” in Ukraine, he flatly said “No!”, then added, well, unless it is in the morning after a lot of drinking.  Bill responded, “Yeah, I kind of thought it sounded like ‘leftovers’.  I won’t insult the chef by asking him to warm it up in the microwave!”

By 7:15, it was clear our choices were “the 7:30 show but no dessert” or “dessert, but then the late (9:30) show, ending at 10:15”.  As NYE is in two nights, we opted to stretch ourselves a bit to stay up for the late show and have our dessert. Bill ordered (on the app) a Scotch for the room (night cap maybe?) and we got a little work done (blog, picture formatting, and prep for tomorrow).

The show we something about dancing.  So there was a lot of singing and dancing and singing about dancing.  I'll let Theresa tell you all about it... TG Note: It was a production show (today was the first time this troupe performed it) about dance - including all different forms.  So, yes -- it was about 35 minutes of signing about dance!

Good Night!!!
