Day 11 - Storms at Sea!

The storm abated.  It was actually nice most of the day!
We woke up and Theresa opened the blinds a bit, to start getting up.  We noticed some lightning.  Looking outside, we could see storms in the distance.  We got up and headed to the upper deck to get in our “exercise”.  Good news!  My shoes have great traction, even in the wet!  Bad news, they squeak like nothing I can describe!!  At least I didn’t need to tell people to get out of the way!

Running (ok, walking) in the wet and wind!

After exercise, we got some breakfast with Mike & MaryAnne, and then by 9:30 it was time for the “Speed Sudoku”.  It started with 5 people, so we judged we had a great chance to win (first, second, or third place was 60% of the people who showed up!).  Alas, more and more came so we were up to 7-8, including a very young couple (honeymooners) who didn’t know at all how to do Sudoku.  Bill won, finishing his in about 1 min 40 sec.  The crew member was so astonished she gave me 20 points instead of the expected 15.  The second place finisher was a bit later, but he had some mistakes.  Theresa came in “third” but with no mistakes, so…really second place!  With my extra time, I showed the young couple how to play and got them going.  He must have liked it because later we noticed they stopped to get the daily sudoku from the game area!

In the mid-cruise comment forms, Theresa noted that they really
should have drinks set up for the Lectures and other functions.
It appears they heard our message!!

A little pre-lunch day drinking!!
We had some down time, but at 12:30 was the “Tequila Tasting”.  Neither of us are really big on tequila, but it was free (or rather, ‘prepaid’) so why not?  I suppose Theresa was secretly hoping I would discover it isn’t all about Scotch, but she’d be disappointed if so!  Anyway, it was interesting, though not with much info I didn’t already know.  We tasted two tequilas, including a “Silver” or “Blanco” and a “Reposado” (the gold one) straight and then with lime and salt.  Then we moved on to Mezcal.  Tequila MUST be made from “blue agave”, but Mezcal can be made from any agave.  Well, they set the bottles out in front of us, and one or two guys on the far side kept running out, so he was busy refilling their sample glasses.  Then the woman next to Theresa ran out so we passed the bottle down to her and she was quite generous with refilling her own glass.  Bill topped up as well.  By the time we finished, well, not only was it lunch time, but we needed some food to offset the four shots of liquor we just had on empty stomachs!

It appears the Capt. tried to dip and avoid the storm.

After lunch, it was time to head to “Name that Tune”. I think we did admirably with the two of us getting 25 (out of 40), but other teams got 35, 32, and 28, so points were not to be had.  No harm, as “Brain Teasers” was next.  A few days ago, we cleaned up on that one, but this time, she was a little more rationed.  Also, there was a logic puzzle.  If you took Linear Algebra, you’ll be familiar with the line “four equations and four unknowns” as a description.  Well, hers was “four unknowns and four inequivalences”.  So, the result was “indeterminate”.  😐

We left and headed straight to Trivia, but it was the same place as “Bingo”, which was free, so we just set up, grabbed a few cards, and won nothing.  But it was a little fun.  Trivia was successful…meaning we won.  Well, we tied, but that’s still winning!  We got ready for dinner, grabbed a drink, and then headed for the dining room.

Yay!!  Another day to roll back the time an hour!

Theresa plans to see the show with MaryAnne, but as neither Bill nor Mike really care, we’re going to let them have a “girls night out”.
