Days at Sea

Most of our sea days have been pretty tame.  Up in the buffet, Theresa discovered a “Poached Egg Bar”, which had poached eggs in about 5 or 6 ways, including on corned beef hash (English?), with guacamole and chips (Mexican?), on brown bread with bratwurst (German?), and others.  She decided she really likes poached eggs on corned beef. 

We split between having lunch in the main dining room or buffet.  The food was a little better in the dining room but rather hard to finish in less than an hour.  We can choose to sit at a two person table or a “sharing table”.  We like the sharing tables, as we get to meet more people, but at a table of up to ten, it can be hard to even hear the people at the other end, and that makes meals very slow!!  (I know, no sympathy!)

There have been a variety of trivia competitions, and we have done a few.  There is a progressive one, where we form teams, and have a running score each day at sea.  One team is creaming the rest of us, getting typically 14 of 15 every day.  So, we bounce around between meals with trivia, the occasional snack, like ice cream or a fancy coffee, sometimes a nap, and such.

They have a glass blowing set up on the top level of the ship.  One night we went to watch them do that.  It was a neat set up.

Pretty much every day, there has been a Catholic Mass.  But the ship bounces it around, sometimes at 5PM, sometimes at 9AM, and even 8AM the day we are to arrive in Papeete, Tahiti.  So, we have caught most of them, but missed one or two.  Fr. Eduardo has made use of us in a variety of ways each day.  I guess going to dinner with him the first night has committed us to being his “helpers”.  Plus, a lot of people are recognizing us, which is odd.

For dinners, it is much like lunches, in that the buffet is quick and easy, but not really hot.  But dinner can take about 2 hours in the main dining room, with the multiple courses.

After dinner, we usually go to see the show.  Once it was a comedian, and he was pretty funny.  They had a compilation of musical numbers, which Theresa liked.  And, since we received drink packages due to buying the cruise a while ago, we have tried the Martini Bar and some other fancy places to try new things.  And I like to cap off the evening with a nightcap of either Scotch, Brandy, or such.  I have enjoyed that!

Oh!  I almost forgot the oddest part...On Tuesday the 16th, we cruised along on the West side of the International date line.  We went to bed, then about 2:30 AM, we crossed the line and it was Tuesday the 16th all over again!  So, everything we didn't get to do the first Tuesday we could try again the second Tuesday!  But we have to pay tips for both Tuesdays.  Hmmph.
