Day 2--Storms?

Not a bad place to do a little spiritual reading.

The crash of the waves through the night was pervasive but in a nice way!  We slept HARD!  A few times it sounded like it was stormy, but going to the outdoor bathroom, all seemed calm.  But, when we got up, the umbrella pole (with a granite base!) was knocked down, and the pillows from our patio bed(?) were in a corner by the trees.  We headed out to the beach chairs to enjoy the waves, and do a little reading/praying and soaking in the sights and sounds.

Maybe not the day to snorkel?

As the wind was still strong, and seemed to be kicking up a bit, the 20 minute boat ride to our snorkeling spot seemed like it wasn’t going to be buckets of fun, and snorkeling under white caps might be “adventurous”, so Theresa called and canceled us.  We went to breakfast.  Theresa decided to make herself a Mango Mimosa, but killed two champagne bottles (getting a teaspoon from each), and someone found her a fresh bottle.  She proceeded to make a volcano pouring too fast (I just wished I had the camera ready!) but we’ll try again tomorrow, maybe.  As we wrapped up breakfast, the storm rolled in, and it started raining.  We wondered if they canceled the snorkel trip entirely, but were glad we didn’t have to scarf breakfast and then be out of luck.

Wind, waves, and a little rain!

We took a leisurely stroll back to our room, stopping a few times to enjoy the waves, the wind, and the such.  We ventured into the Indian Ocean, and then (Bill) walked from the Indian Ocean completely across the island into the lagoon (which was maybe 100 feet wide at that point!).  Hopefully you can see the video here: A walk across Kanifushi

In the afternoon, we walked up the north end of the island to check out the sand bar.  Although it was a little low tide, perhaps due to the storms, the sand bar was under water.  Oh well, it was a nice walk.  We headed back to the pool along the beach, as it began raining.  Some say walking on the beach is romantic.  Some say walking in the rain is romantic.  I don’t get it.  After a nice lunch, we went out the infinity pool overlooking the water.  OMG that water was cold!!!

Why is there sand in the buildings?

After several attempts, the GoPro tipped a bit.  Amateurs!!

After a nice nap and lounging around, we finally went to dinner, and had a tasty night cap at the bar.  They had a DJ playing some enjoyable music, while we just took in the dark scene with white caps crashing on the rocky edge of the protective wall, before heading back to call it a night!
