Maldives--Day 1

The long pier from the shore to the airplane.
A group greeted us at the end of the dock. Two guys were beating drums and continued drumming the rhythm as we walked all the way to the Reception (cool for the first 30 seconds...then, uh). As we were already checked in (at the airport), we had the welcome champagne and then went to our room.

T
he room is really nice!! And includes a little private area outside on the beach. The “canopy” bed sure looks fancy…but it’s mosquito netting and presumably necessary? Initially, Theresa was gung ho to see why outdoor showers are such a big deal, but the whole bathroom is outside, so… Who wants to sweat going to the toilet, or brushing your teeth, or even drying off after a shower? But we did shower. It was curious hearing the roar of the waves (which sounded curiously like freeway traffic). We hurried back into the AC and took a nap!

Outdoor tub--Bathe with bugs!!

View from our patio to "our" beach.

View from the beach to our "backyard"?

The main (foot) path on the island.
W
e got up for a late lunch, walked a bit of the island, and explored the beach. There are hermit (?) crabs EVERYWHERE!!! They are in all sorts of shells and skittering about, but stop to hide when you get too near.

After lunch, we sat on the beach a little, signed up for snorkeling in the morning, and chilled in our room a bit.

There is a single path along the length of the island, but it is a foot path, bicycle path, and cart.  (You can catch the carts every 20 minutes, but we mostly saw them going the other way.

First of several "rounds"!
Finally, we headed to dinner (rather late).  The scenery was awesome!  The primary place to eat is a buffet.  Lunch was amazing!  For dinner, there was a lot of seafood.

After dinner, we headed to the bar and enjoyed a nice after dinner drink.  But sitting there, we were both ready to doze off, so headed back to the room to call it a (long) day!!

Good Night!!
