D3 -- At Sea (2)

Choices had to be made!

We’re going to have like 8 days in a row at sea, so I’ll streamline a little.  Most days will be sleeping in, eating, napping, eating, trivia, eating, and trivia or a show (maybe).Order may be ammended.

Today we went to the brunch.  I should note that neither of us are very “breakfast food” types, so alternate food options are frequently appreciated.  This menu was a mix of breakfast, brunch, and lunch.  So, it fit us well!  It also featured a buffet (a bit limited, but it’s not like we’re hurting for food).  Theresa got a donut (certain it was a Berliner and filled)  then a hamburger, hold the bun, because when you only have so much room, why fill up with bread?  She’s not wrong.  Bill got bacon and eggs…well, technically it was spaghetti carbonara with bacon, but carbonara is made with eggs, so it seemed “breakfasty”.

We had previously walked the upper decks of the ship, so today’s agenda was to walk the lower decks.  In short time they all looked alike, so despite Theresa discerning meaning, Bill felt like it was a ruse to disorient him so he would not find his way home.

The progressive trivia was not as easy as yesterday, but we had a bit of a team shake up.  One guy didn’t show up, and another team of two joined us.  Seemed like they just took all of our answers without knowing any we needed.  But…we’ll call that charity.  Right now (based on yesterday) we are tied for 3^rd with 9 other teams.  They didn’t give us answers today, so tomorrow will be interesting.

For dinner, Theresa had booked us at the “Butcher’s Block by Dario”.  If you want the background, there is a really good Netflix piece (Season six, second episode of the Chef’s Table) on the real thing.  This guy ends up being a butcher which is the family business, and he now runs a restaurant serving assorted cuts of beef prepared in old traditional ways celebrating the whole animal, not just “steak”.  The restaurant sort of watched the episode and tried to do an homage to the real thing.  For a cruise ship, it was a great job.  No complaints!!  We had six cuts of beef prepared in unique ways, and each was quite different.  They also included a full bottle of Merlot, but Theresa only wanted a bit, so Bill courageously set about to finish what she didn't.  (She didn’t say Thank you, but Bill is SURE she is happy he did his best!).

We had a course from 6 of the 7 indicated cuts!  Plus sides.

We capped off the evening with the main show.

Bill:  There was singing, dancing, costumes, and (purportedly) a storyline.  The most curious part was watching the “sign language interpreter” signing for musical things that weren’t words.  Also, if one is “reading” a sign language interpreter, they aren’t watching the show, are they?  That miffed me a bit.  However, Theresa might have had a different take away for the show.

Theresa: It was the story of love of two people for a women (one fatherly love and the other romantic) set at a carnival.  They had dancers and singers, and humor throughout.  The arena is in the round, so you are a lot closer than you would normally be for a production show.  I enjoyed it greatly!
