No, not THOSE Pirates!!
We got to bed early last night, figuring we had to get up early today
and post the pictures for the Petra day...Theresa was right! The problems
(well, most) we were having with the blog weren’t with the website, but rather
because there were too many people trying to do too much at the same time! So, we published that blog, went to an early
breakfast, and went back to bed (this is vacation, after all)!
We have a progressive trivia which we play each sea day at
10:15am. So, on the way to the trivia,
we heard the Captain’s announcement, which said we were having a drill with
some of the boats around us. We saw 3
vessels, so thought that was interesting…Just after the first trivia question,
this zodiac boat comes barreling at our ship, and the ship makes a hard
right…Everyone, of course, gets up and runs to the windows to look (not the
best thing, had it been pirates!!). The
girl leading the trivia had apparently missed the Captain’s announcement and,
with images of Captain Phillips streaming through her head (which she decided
to watch just 2 days earlier), she got on the phone to call in to
operations. 5 minutes later, the
excitement had passed, and trivia resumed.
Through the day, we went again to the lecture from the
Physicist, this one on Copernicus, Einstein, and Maxwell. Then we went to high tea (which Theresa loves
for some reason). Something about
clotted cream and scones.

Sunset...although not the best picture lighting!

A firy dessert.
After dinner, we headed up to the Sky Lounge for a
nightcap. Theresa likes to try new
things, and as she hasn’t yet found a cocktail that she likes (enough to make a
long term commitment), she has a different one every time. Well, the Sky Lounge has a series of them
named for the Signs of the Zodiac, so she is diligently working her way through
them. (This was the lounge we took a
picture of on an earlier night, where we sat all alone.) We walked in and noticed in addition to the
lights being mostly off, there were two guys tending bar, and we doubled the
room occupancy! After we sat down, they
changed the music to some gritty version of hip hop, and we wondered if they
wanted us to leave. But we stayed and
had our drink. Near the end, a few
elderly Asians came in and sat down in the front row. The bar tender asked if they would like
drinks, and they declined (using body language as English seemed to not be in
their skill sets). So, we watched the
elderly Chinese people sitting in the front row listening to hip hop and
waiting for a show that was NOT coming.
As we exited, a large group of elderly Asians were swooping in passed
us. Have a great night! We got on the elevator, and it stopped on a
floor before ours, and the older man standing there exclaimed, “Bill!” which
startled us for a second, but we recognized him (and his wife) as the couple we
sat with on the Corinthian cruise, and talked briefly as the doors closed. He heckled us for heading down (and to bed)
at merely 10PM! We got to our room and
looked out at the stars (illegally sneaking on the balcony, as we were supposed
to be buttoned up), and decided to try to get a better look upstairs. Although not completely dark, we could see so
many more stars than we normally do at home, so that was worth the trip back up
stairs! We took a couple of
pictures. Rather than share how they
came out, just close your eyes. Yup!
